Be Involved... Be Informed... BE HEARD!

Welcome

Thank you for visiting your Staff Senate website. Since its inception in 2000, the Staff Senate has played an integral role in campus governance, serving as the official representative body for all non-faculty staff. The Staff Senate is comprised of elected members from offices and departments across campus. Our organization also welcomes associate members who are actively involved without holding an elected position. This site is designed to help you learn more about what we do and how you can contact us. It will also provide updates on issues and events affecting the staff at TCNJ.

Greetings from the Outgoing Staff Senate President

It was a true pleasure serving as Staff Senate President over the past two years.  I never thought I would take on that role when I first joined the Senate in 2007, but I had an excellent mentor in Nino Scarpati, and my experiences drafting the Middle States Report and the 2016-2021 Strategic Plan gave me opportunities to engage with key members of the campus community.  Those conversations and interactions are what drove my term, as I tried at every meeting to have an important campus stakeholder present to the Senate.  Whether learning about Title IX, exchanging idea on branding and marketing, or receiving a budget breakdown, I strove for each Senator to leave our meetings a little more connected to the big issues and challenges facing TCNJ.  I firmly believe that staff have an important voice on campus concerns, so my biggest frustration while President was failing to prevent the reduction and elimination of staff seats on certain governance committees and councils (as proposed in the Governance Review document going before the Board of Trustees this summer).  Even with slimmed-down representation, however, I have every confidence that our Senators will continue to strongly advocate for their colleagues and–more importantly–for our students.  I feel my proudest moment as President was in our most recent elections, when an all-time high of 24 staff members ran for Senate positions.  This proves that the work and role of the Senate is valued by those we have represented in the past.  I wish both our new and old Senators, as well as our new leadership team on the Senate, all the best in the year to come!
